Could a structure assemble itself while falling from high above ground and land safely, ready for use? Yes.

As part of a collaborative project with four other students at MIT, the engineering expertise of Atelier One in London, and the advising of Skylar Tibbits, we developed a folding structure built of fiberglass rods, rip-stop fabric, and aluminum sleeves. The structure folds flat and, while falling 100+ feet towards the ground, expands to enclose an area roughly 18’ x 18’.

What would it mean if architecture could be deployed in sites that are difficult or impossible to access with traditional materials almost instantaneously?
